The new WeatherMax cover and awning material offers complete weather protection and is effective against condensation, reports C&J Marine Ltd, a top marine cover manufacturer.

WeatherMax, distributed by Contender UK, combines breakthrough UV technology with water resistance and durability, providing excellent colour retention, breathability and waterproofing, according to Chichester-based C&J Marine Ltd.

C&J manager, Wayne Strickland, said: "In some situations, WeatherMax offers 100% weather protection. With other fabrics breathability can be an issue, where condensation forms on the underside, creating a breeding ground for mildew, which becomes unsightly and is difficult to remove. WeatherMax is performing extremely well in difficult climactic conditions in the UK and results at this stage indicate that some of these issues are being impressively addressed."

WeatherMax has a HydroMax finish which boosts breathability and ensures there is no need for extra coatings. This makes WeatherMax, lightweight, water resistant, breathable, non-sagging, and durable.

C&J, one of the country’s largest manufacturers of marine covers and upholstery for sailing yachts, power and motor boats, tested WeatherMax in different applications.

Mr Strickland said: "We used it first, almost 12 months ago, on overall RIB covers and were immediately impressed with it. We have also made it into protective sail covers and powerboat canopies. It offers comparable protection as similar fabrics and is competitively priced." In addition, C&J has been impressed with its hydrostatic properties and small storage requirements.

WeatherMax is woven using SaturaMax yarn. SaturaMax yarn technology gives fabric the same long term colour retention associated with acrylic materials, but with the significant advantage of higher strength, stability and abrasion resistance.

WeatherMax is available in a wide range of colours to suit all applications. It comes in two weights, the standard WeatherMax 80 at 271g/m2 and the lightweight WeatherMax LT at 220g/m2. WeatherMax is an ideal solution for covers, awnings, UV strips, upholstery, cushions, umbrellas and sun shades and has a comparable price to acrylics.
